A photographic highlight selected by the picture desk. Emily Davison was a militant campaigner for the women’s vote. On Derby Day 1913, she ran onto the course during the Derby at Epsom and was knocked down by one of King George’s horses, Anmer. As a result of the injuries that she sustained, she died 4 days later. Thousands of suffragettes followed her coffin at her funeral
